As of May 2015, health care and health services positions were among the most hired, second only to business and professional service positions. According to the Department of Labor, the demand for healthcare positions is high with over 430,000 positions to be filled. This trend will continue as the existing population continues to age and demand better healthcare. Over 150,000 positions for registered nurses are available, according to the Department of Labor, and over 1,000,000 were filled between 2000 and 2014. On the contrary, the nursing industry will see a projected growth of 19% through 2022 with over 500,000 new positions opening across the country.

In New York City, nurses are in high demand; 235 new nurses were hired in both April and May of this year in facilities across the state, including hospitals, doctor’s offices, and nursing homes.
