What Do You Need To Become a Medical Assistant?

Technically, all you need to become a medical assistant is your GED, a willingness to learn, and a doctor willing to let you train on the job. Unfortunately, finding a doctor or medical practice willing to hire someone without formal education is becoming increasingly difficult. Thankfully, there are plenty of medical assistant courses offered online and in-person to help fill the void. With this training, you will have a much easier time finding a job because you’ll already be prepared to function within your role.

Medical Assistant Certification

If medical assistants aren’t required to have formal education to get hired, it probably isn’t too surprising that certification is optional, as well. However, when you are looking for a job as a medical assistant, you will be competing against a lot of people, most of whom take the time to receive their medical assistant certification. If you want to show prospective employers that you take your profession seriously and are dedicated to providing excellent care, receiving your medical assistant certification is strongly encouraged. Although the certification is not required by law, it is required for many positions.
