Whether you are approaching graduation or recently completed your program, finding a job can be difficult - but it doesn’t have to be. There are plenty of tips and tricks for landing your dream job, and recent graduates may need a little help learning the ropes. Get in on the know-how with these 4 post-graduation career tips that will put your resume at the top of the stack.

1. Dress for Success, Not Early Morning Physiology

In school, you can dress however you like. If you’re like most students, you’ve probably rolled out of bed in pajamas just to rush out the door to make it to class on time. Now that you’ve graduated, you have to start dressing for success. You should make an effort to dress nicely whenever you attend your interviews and whenever you are out running errands. You never know when or where you’ll meet or run into your future boss.

2. Network, Network, and Then Network Some More

In school, you are surrounded by people in your field. Now, you have to make your own network. Look for local events, groups, and professional organizations to help expand  your network. But don’t stop there. Be open. Talk to the people around you. Keep a resume in your backpack or purse. Make business cards that you can hand to people when you don’t have a resume handy. What you know is important, but often it’s who you know that gets you the interview.

3. Take The Stepping Stone Job (But Don’t Stay There)

Finding your dream job may take time, especially if you have a very specific vision. In the meantime, you need to build up your network and experience. Taking a job that isn’t perfect is a great way to make yourself a more valuable employee. You can use this stepping stone job to launch you to your dream job when it opens up. But beware! Many people become content at their stepping stone job. Then, when their dream opportunity presents itself, they miss it because they weren’t really looking. If you take a stepping stone job to make ends meet, be sure that you keep looking for the perfect career.

4. Don’t Overestimate The Internet

The internet is a great asset for finding jobs, but it isn’t your only option. Going to hospitals or doctor’s offices in person with a resume makes a great impression. Sending a personal thank you card rather than an email after an interview can be the difference between getting a job and the silent treatment. Go beyond the computer screen, and you’ll find numerous opportunities.
