Interviewing for a new healthcare job can be stressful, especially because you never know what your prospective employer is going to ask. We’ve compiled this list of 3 common healthcare interview questions to help you prep for your next big interview.

Why did you choose to work in healthcare?

Avoid: Don’t tell them you chose your profession because you were able to complete training quickly or knew the job market was excellent. Don’t focus on how the career is good for you.

Instead: Focus on how passionate you are about your role. Talk about an experience you’ve had in training where you excelled and realized you could make a difference. It’s okay to open up and tell a real story.

What do you believe is the future of healthcare?

Avoid: If this question catches you off guard, and you haven’t done your research, don’t stammer or look like a deer in headlights.

Instead: Take a deep breath and pause to think of an answer. You may want to consider some of the following trends. Baby boomers are getting older so there is more need for elder care. Technology is advancing so new softwares and machines will be integrated into healthcare practices. Political changes may affect insurance, though you should be careful not to speak in a divisive manner.

Why should we hire you for this position?

Avoid: Don’t think too long when they ask this question. No matter what job you are interviewing for, you should be prepared for this question. You don’t want to come across as arrogant either, though, so don’t go on and on.

Instead: Come up with three things that make you an excellent candidate for the job, and share those with your interviewers. State them succinctly, and make them specific. Don’t say you are nice; say you work well with other people under stress.
