Step 1: Get Educated To Become A Medical Assistant

Step 2: Get Certified To Become a Medical Assistant
Now that you know what you are doing, you need to prove your knowledge. That’s where the Certificate of Medical Assisting comes in. Certification isn’t required to work as a medical assistant, but it does lead to more job opportunities with higher pay. Many employers require their medical assistants to be certified; others offer bonuses to their certified medical assistants. To take the exam, you have to complete medical assistant training through an accredited school. The exam is held in January, June, and October every year and costs between $95 and $195.

All you need to become a medical assistant through on the job training is a GED and a willing employer.
