It’s National Nursing Assistants Week, and if you are wondering how to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), we have good news; it’s more accessible than you think.
CNAs help other healthcare professionals and are a growing part of the healthcare workforce. They also spend a lot of their time working directly with patients to provide one-on-one care. Read on to learn how to become a Certified Nurse Assistant.
Find an Accredited Program
Once you decide that a career as a CNA is your goal, the next step is to find the right accredited program. A good accredited CNA program will teach you all that is needed to be a good Certified Nurse Assistant and everything you need to know to pass your licensure exam.
At Manhattan Institute, we offer a flexible 3 month course that prepares you for all aspects of a career as a CNA. If you don’t live near Manhattan, try to find a program that fits your schedule, has good reviews, and most importantly, is accredited. You want to make sure that the education you are receiving will actually prepare you for the exam and your career.
Do Well In Your Classes
As a healthcare professional, the things you learn in your coursework are crucial to your success and the wellbeing of your patients. Pay attention in your classes. Study your lessons well. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. Everyone has areas of schooling that they struggle with. Your instructors, fellow classmates, internet forums, and other study aids are all available to you to help you be successful. Remember that you will have to pass your licensure exam in order to become a CNA so don’t be afraid to ask for help if you don’t understand something.
Pass Your Licensure Exam
Every state has a different test for licensing. In New York, it is the New York Certification Exam. You submit an application to take the test, and then you will answer multiple choice questions and perform a clinical test where you show the skills you have learned in your program. Try not to stress too much. Most states allow you to retake the test a few times if you don’t pass on the first try. In New York, you can take the exam up to 3 times without waiting and reapplying. Once you pass the exam, you will receive your certificate in the mail. When it comes, you are officially a Certified Nurse Assistant.
